Boric acid  [10043-35-3] Boric acid is used, among others as a fertilizer component, wood impregnation agent, ingredient for the production of boron glass and paints, as well as in tanning. It is also used as a preservative (E284). It is an available, inexpensive and relatively low toxic compound, which is why it has been used as a “green” catalyst for a number of chemical reactions.
