Application
- In the European Union, titanium dioxide was approved as a food additive with the number E171. However, in 2021, the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) changed its earlier opinion and concluded that titanium dioxide could no longer be considered safe as a food additive.
- Used as a white pigment in the manufacture of paints and varnishes, plastics, synthetic fibers, paper, and in the cosmetics industry as an ingredient in sunscreens
